Welcome to Spring Time at Bikram’s Yoga Kamloops

Main Content Inline Small

We love the springtime! It is a time for moving forward with more energy. It’s time to do some Spring Cleaning! Time to get into those places in the house that have been neglected. Spring is a great time to clean our cars and garages, our houses & yards and most importantly our bodies and minds – clear out the cobwebs and tighten those loose screws! It is a great time to get back into your practice, or to just do more yoga with the fresh seasonal energy if you already maintain a strong practice. For many, there is another 60 days of cumulative yoga coming – its in the stars. Yes, it must be Spring!

We had a happy and healthy Fall and Winter to be sure. We saw our student body attendance grow strong from your steady referrals, thank you! We are noticing many more families practicing together, many more couples and just more friends, and that’s great! It is true that so many people talk about this incredible Yoga and we grow together from the 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises: improving our individual lives, and so building stronger community in our everyday lives.

In March,  Anita played hooky and traveled Europe with her youngest niece Emily. The above shot of Anita in triangle is in front of The Louver in Paris.

Feature Posture: Standing Bow Pulling Pose (DANDAYAMANA-DHANURASANA)

Main Content Inline Small

BENEFITS-The Standing Bow Pulling Pose is a perfect example of the “tourniquet,” or “damming” effect in Yoga, because it transfers the circulation from one side to the other – from the Ha, or the right, sun side, to the Tha, the left or moon side of the body - and then equalizes it – circulating fresh nutrient rich blood to each internal organ and gland to keep them healthy.
Like the Standing Head to Knee, this pose helps develop concentration, patience, and determination. Physically, it firms the abdominal wall and upper thighs, and tightens the upper arms, hips, and buttocks. It increases the size and elasticity of the rib cage and of the lungs, and it improves the flexibility and strength of the lower spine and most of the body’s muscles.

*So don’t be afraid to really get into the pose, once you get a sense of balance and you have been coming for a while: bring your body down and get your chest and stomach parallel to the floor. If you just hang out were you are comfortable with no body down, nothing much is happening. Try your hardest, to work to the best of your ability – don’t underestimate yourself! - And your body (and life) will improve, and then the posture will improve and so your body… Remember always “Try try again”.

Yoga Asana Championship

Main Content Inline Small

In December we saw Ryan take first place at the Western Regional Yoga Championships – Congratulations Ryan!! Both he and Stephen, his coach, continued training for the International World competition in Los Angels. Ryan represented Western Canada and placed in the top 10 men for the Worlds. Wow! We are so proud to have him teach and practice with us here in Kamloops. He is known for his militant teaching style that reflects the discipline he works for in his practice and in his life. What an inspiration for us all.

In February, after the International Competition, Stephen and Ryan attended and enjoyed a judges clinic with Bikram, his teachers from India, Rajasree and the Senior Teacher’s from Bikram’s Yoga College of India. What a great opportunity to learn more about Yoga Asana, and from some of the best teachers in the world!

Advanced Practice for the Teachers

Main Content Inline Small

In October we had Anita, Ryan, Walter, Melissa and Nicole attend a Vancouver seminar with Craig Vallani, the head of education for Bikram. His knowledge for Bikram’s Yoga is outstanding. A lot was attained from his teachings that come directly from our teachers Bikram, Rajashree and Emmy Cleaves.

In March Dionne enjoyed 6 days with Bikram and Emmy Cleaves in Barcelona Spain, doing the advanced series. Shine On Dionne!!! Bikram is excited to announce from June 20-26/10, at the teaching facility in Las Vegas, he will hold another Advanced Seminar, and there seems to be a lot of interest and excitement in the studio with several students making their plans – Stephen & Anita both plan on attending too – this should be a lot of fun! Please remember this is not only for students with a more advanced practice, but is open to everyone – it is a GREAT opportunity to deepen your Beginning Practice (Beginning Practice every morning), and to learn more of yoga asana from YogiRaj Bikram himself!
